POLICE are quizzing man arrested after a car in a driveway was deliberately set on fire.

A crew of firefighters from Middlewich was dispatched to the scene in Alexandra Road in the town at about 11.30pm last night (June 20).

On arrival, the car was found to be close to a garage, but the crew was able to extinguish the blaze before the flames spread.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and the incident was passed to attending police officers.

A 31-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being questioned in custody.

A Cheshire Police spokeswoman said: "At 11.30pm on Monday, June 20, officers were made aware of a deliberate car fire in Alexandra Road, Middlewich.

"Enquiries in relation to the incident have been ongoing and a 31-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of arson.

"The man is currently being held in police custody and is being questioned by officers."

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "A car was on fire on a driveway close to a garage.

"Firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to put out the blaze and damp down the affected area.

"There was no fire spread to the garage. Police were asked to attend as it is believed the fire was started deliberately."
