AFTER starting out in a pop-up office in his garage, a family man has finally achieved his dream of opening an 'estate agency with a difference' in Middlewich.
Dan Hutchings’ story really is one which starts from humble beginnings.
He held a senior position at one of Cheshire’s leading independent agencies, and after six years as a sales manager, he was ready to push himself further and go it alone.
Umbrella Homes began as an office set-up in Dan’s garage, but 12 months later, his dreams have become a reality and he has opened a beautiful new office in Wheelock Street.
“It gives me a feeling of giving back and helping people achieve their home ownership dreams,” Dan said.
“I opened this office about seven weeks ago – it’s been a whirlwind.”
Dan is aware that estate agency offices can be quite daunting places – especially if you are a first-time buyer or seller.
He was keen to ensure the atmosphere in the office was calm and welcoming, with a designated lounge area where people are encouraged to get comfortable, have a coffee, and discuss their requirements.
The company’s ethos is even printed boldly on the wall: ‘Care, Decency, Transparency and Trust’.
Dan explained: “I wanted an environment in my office which was a little bit different to the normal everyday agency.
“I wanted to have a place where people come in and they feel at ease straight away.”
And it’s not just the office space which Dan wanted to put his spin on.
He is committed to giving back to the community and with each home sold Umbrella Homes will donate a £50 food hamper to Middlewich and District Foodbank.
Dan said: “There is no excuse for food poverty in today’s society, so we shall donate a parcel for every home sold.
“I think it’s really important that independent businesses support these small, local charities.”
Starting with just one home, Umbrella is now being instructed on multiple properties.
