A WIRRAL woman who was dropped off at home by police because she had consumed a bottle of wine got back in her car and drove back to North Wales, a court heard.

Kelly Redmond, of Quarry Avenue in Bebington, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The 42-year-old had previously admitted that on December 11 she drove a motor vehicle on Nant Mawr Road in Buckley after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in her breath exceeded the prescribed limit.

She was found to have 51 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 35.

Rhian Jackson, prosecuting, told police that the offence occurred following reports of a 'domestic incident' at a property in Buckley - that being the home of her partner.

Officers attended the scene and were told by the defendant that she had consumed a bottle of wine, and wouldn't be sober enough to drive back to her home on the Wirral.

She was taken home by police, along with her vehicle, and officers watched her go in before leaving.

But North Wales Police later received a call from Redmond's partner saying she had turned back up in Buckley and was outside shouting.

She had driven back to Buckley from Bebington in her car while intoxicated, and was found on foot by an officer walking away from her partner's address.

Her vehicle was found parked nearby.

After providing a positive breath test for alcohol, she was arrested and taken into custody.

Defending herself at the hearing, Redmond told the court she had lost her job as a result of the offence and that she was 'in debt up to her eyeballs'.

District Judge Gwyn Jones said: "It could have been dealt with by you in a different way, with you not taking that chance.
"Unfortunately you did take the chance."

He handed down a fine of £200 and ordered Redmond to pay £85 in costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

She was banned from driving for 16 months.
