PUPILS at a Winsford primary school have been learning about the importance of mental health and well-being.

Children and staff at Darnhall Primary School took part in a week of activities to develop their well-being.

The activities were part of Children's Mental Health Week, which raises awareness of the campaign towards ensuring every child has access to mental health support

They included virtual assemblies, growth stories and health and fitness sessions.

This year's theme was Growing Together and during the week, which ran from February 7 to February 11, staff at the school encouraged children to consider how they have grown and how they can help others to grow.

Everyone finished the week with a 'dress to express' day where the children and staff could wear anything they liked to express themselves.

The school's mental health leader, Charlotte Chappell, said: "Work around mental health and well-being is important because we aim to build resilience and positive mental health as well as support children’s social and emotional development.

"Teachers' planning ensures the development of confident, curious and creative individuals.

"Improved mental health and well-being can help readiness to learn.

"We aim for our children to feel comfortable sharing and concerns or worries but most of all we aim to ensure that children know that they count."
