A WINSFORD primary school is appealing for help to create 'lending libraries' to encourage children to read more outside the classroom.

Darnhall Primary School is asking members of the public to donate materials such as old cabinets which can then be upcycled.

Once created, the lending libraries will be placed around the school grounds, allowing children to borrow books to read.

A spokesperson for the school said: "At Darnhall we want our families to have access to outdoor lending libraries and are looking for people to make these for us or donate material such as old cabinets for us to upcycle.

"Once made, the children will paint them and they will be placed around the school for families to access.

"At the school, we truly believe that a ‘Love for Reading’ can unlock so many doors in life.

"Reading is a passport to countless adventures and here at school we want to reach out to our whole community so that we adventure together and enjoy literature.

"We encourage our children to read for pleasure as in turn, this will impact positively on the entire curriculum and how they access learning."

The spokesperson also said book vending machines have been installed at the school, as well as a 'Borrow a Book' station in the memorial garden.
