THREE people have been taken to hospital after firefighters dramatically rescued a family from a house fire in Northwich.

The fire service were informed of a fire at around 4.45am at a semi-detached house on Mount Pleasant Road in Davenham.

Due to the serious nature of the incident, with persons reported inside, five fire engines were quickly sent to the scene.

On arrival, smoke alarms were sounding, three people, a dog and several cats were inside the property and there was a fire on the first floor.

Two men had already got out of the house prior to firefighters arrival.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house.

"They got the three people out of the property, a woman and two teenage boys.

"Firefighters then concentrated on getting the pets out of the house and bringing the fire under control.

"People who were inside the house were suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

"The pets have been taken to vets."

The firefighters were able to isolate the gas and electricity supplies to the house and the property next door was evacuated.

Police officers, who were also dispatched to the scene, set up a cordon on Mount Pleasant Road.

The spokesman added: "Firefighters, aided by a covering jet, have brought the fire under control.

"It was contained to the property.

"Firefighters are using a large fan to clear smoke from the house.

"The property next door has been inspect and contains only light smoke logging.

"The people living next door have been allowed to return to their home."

"Firefighters are currently cutting away interior walls on the first floor of the property.

"They are working to ensure that the fire is fully out and the house is safe."

An investigation found the cause of the fire to be a small kitchen appliance.
