A SERIOUS multi-vehicle crash on the M6 has resulted in huge tailbacks and delays.
The incident happened on the northbound carriageway of the motorway at around 11am on Thursday, January 20, between junction 15 and 16.
The collision involved two HGVs, with one of the vehicles crashing through the central reservation resulting in the closure of both the north and southbound carriageways.
National Highways confirmed that traffic begun to move for those travelling southbound about an hour later, but drivers heading north were still being held.
Highways England tweeted these pictures from the scene
Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene, with traffic unable to pass-by due to a hydraulic fluid spillage.
They tweeted: "If you're caught within the closure of the M6 north between J15 (StokeOnTrent) and J16 in Staffordshire, then we are making preparations to turn vehicles from the rear of the queue.
"Unfortunately due to a large hydraulic fluid spillage, we cannot allow vehicles past the scene."
The agency could not confirm how long the motorway would remain closed, adding it was like to take "a considerable amount of time to clear everyone caught within the closure".
The #M6 in #Staffordshire has been BLOCKED in both directions between J15 (#StokeOnTrent) and J16 due to a serious multi-vehicle collision which is affecting both sides of the road.
