UP and coming bands are being showcased at a prestigious event.

The Hive has been chosen to take part in Independent Venue week in February, alongside some of the most established clubs across throughout the UK including The Night and Day Cafe in Manchester and EBGBS in Liverpool.

Indie bands will be playing on Saturday, February 5.

The Lilacs, from Wigan, embark on a UK tour after performing in Winsford.

The band, featuring vocalist Ollie Anglesea, guitarist Sam Birchall, drummer Dave Gomersall and bassist Matty Johnson, has released three singles, Vicarage Road, Something or Nothing, and Seen It All

Influenced by Courteeners, Arctic Monkeys and Catfish and the Bottlemen, these musicians are tipped for huge success in 2022.

Also on the bill are local band Current Affairs, Sonum and local duo The Hangman's Howl, who have been regulars at The Hive since last year.

Chris Carr, general manager of The Hive, said: "I have a real soft spot for these boys, they are so talented.

"They have some very catchy tunes that makes me just want to hear more all the time, great melodies, great lyrics and great songs.

"For me it's like someone took a member from The Libertines introduced them to the Arctic Monkeys on a night out and got together and wrote a bunch of great songs.

"It is very exciting to have such a such a high calibre of musicians coming to The Hive."

A songwriters' session will be held on Sunday, February 6, led by headline act Ian Prowse, from Amsterdam, who is embarking on a UK tour.

This will be an intimate afternoon of live music.

Damon Horrill, a Hive trustee, said: "De Bees was a renowned grass roots music venue introducing bands and artists such as Cage The Elephant, Catfish and The Bottlemen, Tom Walker, The Luka State and Deja Vega in their formative years.

"The legacy continues with The Hive, it's fantastic to have been selected for Independent Venue week."
