HOUSE prices increased in both Cheshire East and West in October, new figures show.

The average Cheshire East house price in October was £269,108, Land Registry figures show – a 3.8 per cent increase on September.

Over the month, the picture was better than that across the north west, where prices decreased 4.8 per cent, and Cheshire East outperformed the 1.1 per cent drop for the UK as a whole.

Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Cheshire East rose by £23,000 – putting the area 32nd among the north west’s 39 local authorities with price data for annual growth.

Meanwhile, the average Cheshire West and Chester house price in October was £237,455 – a 0.9 per cent increase on September and also outperforming the 1.1 per cent drop for the UK.

Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Cheshire West rose by £17,000 – putting the area 37th among the north west’s 39 local authorities.

Owners of detached houses saw the biggest improvement in property prices in Cheshire East in October – they increased 4.3 per cent to £442,818 on average.

Over the last year, prices rose by 11.6 per cent.

This was also the case in Cheshire West which saw detached house prices increasing by 1.5% per cent to £379,678 on average.

Over the last year, prices rose by 9.6 per cent.

First-time buyers in Cheshire East spent an average of £208,000 on their property – £16,000 more than a year ago, and £45,000 more than in October 2016.

This figure is £194,000 in Cheshire West – £13,000 more than a year ago, and £35,000 more than in October 2016.
