A WINSFORD resident is once again lighting up the skies with a spectacular Christmas lights display for charity.

Every year David Robinson, who lives in Station Road, decorates his home with a huge array of Christmas lights and decorations – something which is enjoyed by numerous families in the area, spreading festive cheer.

This year, he will be turning on the lights on Saturday, November 27 at 5pm.

The display has become so popular in the town that David has become a bit of a local celebrity.

He previously said: “A lot of people don’t really know me, but they will see me in the street and say ‘you’re the bloke that does the lights’. I don’t minds it.

“It’s all for a good cause, that is why we are doing it.”

Every year David asks for donations while the display is up and his chosen charity is St Luke’s Hospice.

Since 2013, the dad-of-two has raised more than £10,000 for the hospice.

Before that he collected donations for various charities including Prostate Cancer, Guide Dogs and the Salvation Army.

Last year, David set a new record after transforming his home into a winter wonderland.

His magical efforts raised £2,300 and this was match funded to £4,600 by the employer of his granddaughter Leah Banks.

David said: “The response was brilliant. People were putting notes in instead of coppers. I am very pleased that everyone appreciated it.”

Residents are invited down to Station Road for the grand switch-on this weekend.

The family is reminding people who will be attending not to block the road up and keep in mind social distancing – all while raising at much money as possible for a worthy cause.

Although David contributes himself every year in purchasing new lights and adding to his display, kind members of the public and businesses have sponsored him to be able to repair and replace some of his lights.
