Schoolchildren have been wearing odd socks this week to raise awareness that it is OK to be different.

Pupils and staff at Darnhall Primary School in Winsford have been mixing and matching their socks during Anti-Bullying Week.

The school joined others all around Cheshire to do their bit in highlighting the problem of bullying.

Teacher Jenny Edwards said: “It’s so important to teach children from a young age that it’s OK to be different.

"Everyone will be wearing odd socks this week, so all students know it’s OK to stand out.

"It doesn’t matter what you wear, or what you look like. Odd socks week will teach children exactly this. Both parts of the school, key stage one and two, will be taking part.”

Mrs Edwards continued: “In addition to odd sock week, younger years will also be drawing and cutting out hearts, writing what they like about their peers and themselves inside.

"Stories such as ‘Giraffes can’t dance’ will also be read out in classes, which is a book which teaches children about accepting who they are and those around them for who they are.

"We are a diverse school, everybody is accepted."
