WINSFORD United continued their current unbeaten run with a home 3-1 comeback victory against Longridge Town.

After falling behind late in the first half Winsford dug deep in the second half to come away comfortable winners.

A bright start from the hosts saw Dave Short do well to control a long ball and find Joe Duckworth on the edge of the area, but his first-time effort went agonisingly wide.

The visitors came close themselves midway through the first half. An enticing ball across the box from a free kick by Scott Harries only needed a touch to divert the ball into the back of the net, but luckily for Blues it avoided everyone inside the area.

As both sides pushed for the opening goal Duckworth put Oliver McDonough in behind the defence. He beat the onrushing goalkeeper to the ball, but his cross was just too high for Short in the middle.

With 10 minutes of the first half remaining, it was the away side who broke the deadlock. Danny Wilkinson did well to hold off his man before slipping Joey Collins through on goal and he calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.

In the final minute of the half Ryan Hamer found McDonough who beat the full-back to the ball. He fed Short but his deflected effort looped into the air and fell nicely into the goalkeeper’s arms.

Just five minutes into the second half and Blues were level. McDonough’s persistence and hard work brought the rewards. He beat the goalkeeper to the ball before finding Duckworth on the edge of the area and he fired home.

The turnaround was complete just four minutes later, and what a goal it was! The ball fell to Danny Boden 25 yards out from goal. With only a shot on his mind he unleashed a rocket that flew into the bottom corner, giving Danny Roccia in the Longridge goal no chance!

Inside the final 10 minutes Winsford secured the victory. A goalmouth scramble following a corner saw Will Foster smash the ball into the back of the net from close range.
