Northwich MP Mike Amesbury has paid tribute to Sir David Amess MP who has died after being stabbed multiple times.
The Conservative MP, who represents Southend West, had been holding a surgery in his constituency when the tragedy occurred.
Essex Police confirmed the 69-year-old died following the incident, which is now being investigated.
MPs across the country have shared tributes to Sir David and messages of condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
Labour MP Mike Amesbury said: "Truly dreadful news. David was a hard working MP who worked across the benches on issues such as the building safety crisis.
"He was just doing a job he loved representing his constituents. Thoughts and prayers to his family and staff."
