TOM Vickers completed his clean sweep of the individual honours in the Mid Cheshire League on Saturday when he won the Cowley Cup to add to the Roberts Bakery Trophy and the Mid Cheshire Merit title, writes David O’Brien.

Tom defeated Mark Woodyatt of Lostock Graylams in the final 21-16.

This year has been one in which that Tom has dominated all titles in local leagues, as he has also claimed the Mid Cheshire Premier League Averages, the Norley Merit along with the Pogson Pairs title won with his father Alan.

What is ominous for all other players in the Mid Cheshire area is that Tom already has an outstanding record in the local competitions with 5 Mid Cheshire Merit titles, 6 Roberts Bakery Cups and 5 Cowley Cups and at the age of 32 he will no doubt continue to add to these over the years to come.

On Sunday Tom then moved on to play for his club side Wharton Cons in the Whitby Cup at Owley Wood where they fought out a close encounter with Comberbach.

Comberbach received a 24-shot handicap in the final and the earlier results saw Cons wipe out this advantage and take a 27-shot lead after the first four games.

It was at this point Comberbach launched their comeback recording the next 5 winners to take the lead by 1 shot with the last game on the green.

Jack Bushell claimed the decisive win for Wharton Cons 21-17 to ensure a 3 shot victory for the Winsford team.

Friday night sees the conclusion of the Castle Sports two-man team event with eight teams competing for the £300 first prize. Play will start at 6.45pm.

On Saturday the action moves to Middlewich with the conclusion of the Middlewich RBL singles competition.

There is lots of local interest in the final 16 with Conel Redmond, Jamie Hulse, Larry Buckley, Lester Bebbington, Craig Jones, Dave Tomlins and Graham Williamson. Play starts at 5pm.
