A VAN towing a trailer was stopped for speeding in Knutsford and the driver was found to only have a provisional licence.
The vehicle overtook the sergeant going at 75mph in lane four of four on the M6 south.
The Regional Commercial Vehicle Unit stopped the van.
They were dealt with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) and switched drivers as the passenger had a full licence.
Posting on Twitter, a North West Motorway Police spokesperson said: “One stopped at Knutsford this morning by the RCVU.
“The vehicle overtook the Sgt doing 75 in lane four of four on the M6 south. When stopped the driver only had a provisional licence.
“Dealt with by TORs and driver change as the passenger had a full licence.”
