WINSFORD United's three-match winning run came to an end at Prestwich Heys.

Lee Duckworth's side, riding high on confidence after successes against Runcorn Town, Ashton Athletic and Burscough, were defeated 4-1.

Blues' performance was a shadow of those seen so far this season as they became the first team to lose to Prestwich in the North West Counties Premier League.

They are now seventh in the table, three points behind leaders Wythenshawe Town.

The hosts dominated the opening period of the game, and got their rewards on the 15th minute.

A long ball into the box found Niall Sultan who poked the ball past the goalkeeper to give Prestwich the lead.

Winsford had opportunities to level the game but Livesy was in fine from to maintain Prestwich lead.

With the game approaching the interval Prestwich doubled their lead.

Jack Coop saw his first effort on the edge of the area blocked, but the ball fell kindly back to the number nine who flicked the ball into the air, and saw his second effort nestle into the far corner.

Winsford almost pulled themselves back into the game on the hour mark, but Prestwich's James Dwyer was on hand to clear the ball off the line. And what an important moment in the game it proved to be.

Just three minutes later the hosts grabbed a third. Rothwell’s cross took a deflection and landed perfectly for Oscar Cambell to smash the ball into the back of the net.

In the final minute of the 90 Winsford were awarded a penalty, and up stepped Joe Duckworth who made no mistake from the spot.

The goalscoring didn’t stop there as Prestwich capped off a brilliant performance with a fourth.

Substitute Anthony Hall was in the right position at the right time to tap home at the back post to give Prestwich a 4-1 win.

United will aim to do better when they host Irlam on Monday and then don't play again until they visit Avro on Wednesday, September 8.
