YOUNGSTERS are being invited to try their hand at Scouting activities next month.

2nd Knutsford (Crosstown) Scout Group is appealing for children, aged six to eight, to consider joining its Beaver section when activities resume in September.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children along for a few weeks without commitment before making a decision on joining.

The Beavers meet between 6.15pm and 7.15pm on Wednesdays at the 2nd Knutsford Scout hut in Manor Crescent.

The group's membership secretary, David Hogg, said: "Parents might be wondering if their child will enjoy it or whether they will ‘fit in’? In our experience, the best way to find out is to just give it a go.

Knutsford Guardian:

"With a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities, there are opportunities for our Beavers to exercise their legs as well as their minds, while making new friends, picking up skills for life and having lots of laughs. It’s not all knots."

Applications are also being welcomed for the group's Cub (ages eight to 10) and Scout (ages 10 to 14) sections, although spaces are currently limited. They are available on a first come first serve basis, but there is an active waiting list.

David added: “Our group couldn’t run without our fantastic volunteer leaders, who are aware that all children are different and need encouragement in different ways.

"Outgoing, shy, loud or quiet – all are welcome at 2nd Knutsford. By tailoring their approach, our leaders aim to help individuals develop and get the most from the activities offered to them.

"Meanwhile, behind the scenes, a small team see to the administration of the group, including management of the building, equipment and finances.

“For adults who would like a new challenge, volunteering to join our team is a rewarding way to give something back to the community while having the opportunity to learn new skills.

"Whatever you choose to do, and whether you give 30 minutes a week or 30 minutes a month, every contribution is valuable to us."

The group is also on the lookout for a new treasurer, while the scout hut itself is available for hire.
