WINSFORD United conceded five goals after losing their goalkeeper to injury in a season-opening loss at Charnock Richard.

Blues were leading 1-0 in the North West Counties Premier Division clash thanks to a second-minute strike from Danny Boden when Mike Langley exited the field with an injury in the 26th minute.

Centre half Daniel Thomas came off the bench to take control of the nets, while midfielder Sean Sherwood later replaced him.

The hosts were back on level terms 11 minutes after Langley's departure and nudged ahead on the stroke of half-time before adding three more unanswered goals in the second half.

Lee Duckworth's side will host Charnock in the FA Cup on Saturday after hosting Macclesfield on Tuesday at Barton Stadium.

The Silkmen, a new club born out of the wound-up National League Macc side last summer, defeated Burscough at home in their opener in front of a crowd of more than 2,000 fans.
