MORRISONS in Middlewich is helping to boost the bee population in Cheshire by distributing 'pollinator pit stop packs' to community groups.

The packs contain the seeds of bee-friendly flowers with the aim of building a nationwide network to save these tiny pollinators.

Morrisons Middlewich Community Champion Liz Lyons is looking for children's groups and holiday clubs to join in.

"This is wonderful idea set up by Arla working alongside custodians of the British countryside and the farmers that own dairy cooperative," she said.

"They have been working to combat a biodiversity crisis due to a dwindling population of pollinators like bees for several years across their 2,300 farms.

"Now Arla has joined forces with Buglife, one of the UK's leading protectors and supporters of pollinators, to launch a rallying call for the nation to help save our pollinators.

"They are calling on the nation to join them to build the BEE ROAD, a nationwide network of pollinator pit stops filled with bee friendly flowers.

"Morrisons is supporting the initiative by working closely with its communities.

"Arla is giving away 100,000 seedstick packs to help the nation create pit stops and this is where I have been asked to help as Morrisons Middlewich Community Champion.

"They have asked us to approach community groups and schools to share these packs to engage in the activity.

"I have been given 40 of the seedstick packs and the flowers will be a mix of native wildflowers including Poppy, Forget-Me-Not and Corn Chamomile.

"There are also some activity sheets and a poster for the children to colour in so the bees will see there is a pollinator pit stop for them to rest and refuel."
