A LORRY full of six tonnes of household waste went up in flames in Middlewich on Wednesday afternoon (July 21).

The incident happened on St Michaels Way just after 2.30pm, with fire crews sent to the scene from the town, as well as from Winsford and Northwich.

When they arrived at the scene, firefighters found the lorry was already well alight.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Three fire engines attended - one from Middlewich, one from Winsford and one from Northwich

"Firefighters attended to a lorry containing household waste well alight on St Michaels Way.

"Wearing a breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a hose reel jet as well as two ladders were used to put out the flames."
