THE hottest day of the year was recorded in the UK at the weekend and it is still pretty scorching out there.

With temperatures hitting the high 20s, chances you might fancy a dip.

A few north west attractions are closed or limited at the moment but some outdoor pools are open and organised open water sessions are regularly taking place. Here is a round up.

Nantwich Outdoor Pool

The outdoor pool first opened to the public in July 1935 and is believed to be the only inland brine pool left in Britain today.

It used to be unheated but these days it is maintained at 74F (22C) so wetsuits aren't essential.

To book visit portal.everybody.org.uk/bookings and enter the date and time you want to visit. Family swims are only available on certain days.

It costs £5.50 for adults and from £8.50 for families.

Cheshire Aquapark at Manley Mere

Get ready to jump, splash and slide in the north west's biggest aquapark.

The site used to be a dairy farm before the family followed their passion of watersports.

There are all kinds of obstacles, slides and agility challenges including the 16ft Escalde climbing wall which you can tackle before plunging into the water.

Wild Shore - Delamere

Wild Shore is described as a safe environment to get into the sport of open water swimming.

On the website it said: "With safety instructors on stand up paddle boards and rest pontoons half way round each course, you will always be looked after. Whether you are a beginner to the sport, training for your first event or possibly even in training for an endurance triathlon, the lake at Wild Shore will cater to your needs."

Boundary Water Park - near Holmes Chapel

Uswim hosts regular open water sessions here. It is one of the longest established open water providers in the UK 'dedicated to introducing 'newbies' into the great outdoors'.

On the website it added: "Our picturesque Cheshire venue is one of the loveliest places to swim in the Northwest. It's well suited to novice swimmers and families who welcome its warmth, shallow depth and chilled, rural atmosphere.

"Thousands of swim folk have been welcomed into the open water here since the late 1990's and it continues to grow from strength to strength."

The Farm Club - Pickmere

Pre-booked open water sessions take place until September and cost £7. Or you can go for introductory introductory coaching session from a British triathlon coach for £20.

A statement said: "Open water swimming at The Farm Club is a safe and secure environment to get into the sport of open water swimming. Whether you are a novice to the sport, training for your first event or possibly even in training for an endurance triathlon, our partners, Total Tri Training and their experienced coaches will guide you through your swimming journey."

David Lloyd Gym - Warrington

You'll have to be a member to enjoy this one or know a member who wouldn't mind taking you as guest.

Family swim takes place from 10am to 7pm on Monday to Thursday, 4pm to 7pm on Friday and 10am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday but there are also adult only sessions.

On the website it said: "As well as our indoor and kids’ splash pools, we’re really proud of our beautiful outdoor heated pool and sun terrace, which becomes a lively social hub during summer months."

NEARBY FACILITIES THAT ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED OR RESTRICTED

Marbury Park

This outdoor pool is set in lawned gardens and is surrounded by woodlands. It is often considered to be one of Cheshire's hidden gems.

The pool is unheated and features two diving boards – a springboard and the a platform board.

However it is currently members only and it has sold out for the season. But some public sessions could be coming soon.

On the Facebook page it said: "For those of you who have missed out on memberships for the 2021 season we hope to be announcing some public sessions over the summer – once current restrictions have been lifted – so watch this space."

Congleton Paddling Pool

This much-loved paddling pool has been open to children since the 1930s and continues to be as popular today especially because it is free. But it is undergoing maintenance at the moment.

A statement from Congleton Town Council said: "With temperatures hotting up and schools breaking up we regret to announce the Congleton Paddling Pool remains closed to the public until further notice.

"We are working hard to resolve a maintenance issue to provide a safe environment for children to enjoy the pool. We apologise for the obvious disappointment this may cause, however we hope to resolve this soon."

Church Walk Paddling Pool - Northwich

The popular and free attraction is set to reopen on August 2 with controlled numbers and timed sessions.

A spokesperson for Northwich Town Council said: "In the light of the Covid pandemic, whilst cases continue to be high and many parents and young people will not have had the chance to have both vaccines yet, we are looking at how we can reduce capacity within the pool to ensure the safety of visitors and to make it a more enjoyable experience for those attending.

"We are working to get everything in place so that the pool can re-open on Monday August 2, with numbers controlled through booking a slot online.

"There will be a morning session from 10am until 12.30pm and an afternoon session from 2pm until 5pm."

Sandy Lane Aqua Park - Chester

This free play area attracts scores of visitors on sunny days with a variety of features including a water mushroom, a doorway and a couple of tunnels. But the council's website says it is closed until further notice.
