Middlewich Classic Car and Bike Show postponed until September

This annual charity event which attracts thousands of visitors was to have been held at Harbutts Field on King Street on July 18 and 19.

A new date in mid September will be announced next month.

Stephen Dent, one of the organisers, said: "The rise of cases of Covid in Cheshire East meant that all visitors and cars and bikes had to be pre-registered. We would have had to organise track and trace.

"The number of people on the field and other demands would be so restricted that it wouldn't work.

"Our show is a just turn up and enjoy event and people like the freedom other larger events can't provide."

A Dakota fly past had been arranged for the Saturday and it was hoped that the Red Arrows may come too, though the RAF display team only confirms nearer the date.

Three community groups and volunteers have teamed up to co-ordinate the show which, in the past, was run by Middlewich Town Council for around 15 years.

Beartown Classic Car Club is the main sponsor with support from M6 Junction 16 Motoring Club and members of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club.

The show will be raising funds for three charities, North West Air Ambulance, Prostate Cancer and the Donna Louise Children's Hospice.

St Luke's Hospice charity bus will be on site alongside various charity stalls.

Volunteers from Rotary, Round Table and Freemasons have kindly offered to help.

"This will be a big well co-ordinated voluntary event with local organisations," said classic car buff Stephen, who owns four vintage vehicles.

"We have sponsorship from various companies. The show raises money for all sorts of charities.

"Everything is in place, now all we need is a date which we will announce mid July."
