FREE guitar lessons are being launched at a pub.

The Kings Lock in Middlewich is giving people of all ages the chance to learn how to play this popular musical instrument.

Martin Moseley, host at Weaver Valley Co-operative which runs The Kings Lock, said: "There's no skill level and no age restrictions, this one's for everyone.

"In the safe hands of local musicians Dave Speakman and Lizzie Boyle, you will be taught the basic chords of three or four songs during a weekly Monday evening lesson over the course of six weeks.

"At the end we'll put on a short afternoon concert to showcase the selection of songs learnt to family, friends and any members of the community who'd llike to attend."

Professional musician Dave Speakman, who has taught guitar at Middlewich High School for 20 years, has offered to give up his time and share his expertise.

"It seemed like a nice thing to do," said Dave.

"Pubs are always a good place for musicians to be. If it gets a few more people learning the guitar that would be great.

"The idea is to get total beginners to the point where they can play a few songs.

"I also have a YouTube channel with a lot of guitar lessons on so students will be able to follow on from the lessons using these."

Some people may be surprised to discover hidden talents.

"Some students astound me by how fast they take it up," said Dave. "It's just a question of applying yourself to it and making time to practise.

"It's more about the physical nature of the instrument at first but I believe everyone could play the guitar.

"I like the versatility of the guitar. I think it's quite an expressive instrument. It's not something you ever get bored of."

The group has space for around 20 players.
