MOTORISTS are being warned of congestion on the M56 westbound between junction 9 (Lymm Interchange) and junction 10 (for Warrington and Northwich).
Highways England stopped traffic just after 5pm due to a crash so that emergency vehicles could attend the scene.
The motorway reopened a little after 5.20pm but there is still a large volume of traffic.
But drivers were warned by Highways England on Twitter: "We've now released the traffic following this incident, however this may take some time to start to move/clear due to the amount of congestion that had formed from adjoining roads."
