A JUNIOR football team's stunning success has been dedicated to the club's former chairman.

Winsford Over 3 under sevens completed their first season unbeaten and felt they did so with Tony Mitchell looking over them.

Tony, a huge inspiration to all at the club, died in January.

"With two lockdowns and the sad death of our late chairman Tony Mitchell we managed to carry on with Tony looking over us and carry out our results," said the team manager Andrew Ford.

"Each week we have impressed more and more and come on leaps and bounds.

"No restrictions through Covid have put a dampner on any of the boys whatsoever."

Andrew and the two coaches Dale Mundy Snr and Dale Mundy Jnr guided the young team to some amazing performances.

They won all 10 games played, scoring 329 goals in the process while only conceding 73.

"For a group of six and seven-year-olds to perform at this level is outstanding," said Andrew.

And they celebrated in style, too.

"We did our own cup parade as the season came to a close," said Andrew.

"The season's been fantastic and a great tribute to Tony."

The team also did their own tribute before their last match to Jordan Banks, the nine-year-old from Blackpool who died after being struck by lightning while playing football.

Andrew expressed a huge thanks to the team's sponsors Mitras Automotive and Danielle Ashley Activities Ltd, who provided kits and jackets for the players.
