FOR Cheshire band The Wolf Howls When I Scream Your Name, the future looks bright, with a debut album set to be released.

The three-man emo/alternative band, from Northwich have been pulling out all the stops since lockdown to push forward their creative careers.

Lead singer and guitarist Matthew Awbery, 25, drummer Sam Johnson, 24, and bass player Harry Woodrow, 29, have been signed to Engineer Records.

Their first single, Wilting, was released on June 1, with their debut album, Grief Songs, to be released later this year.

Explaining how the band was born, Matthew said: “I was in a different band for a few years and I started this as a solo project in December 2017.

“In 2018, I decided to turn it into a band.

“Me and Sam did a foundation degree together so that’s how I became friends with him.

“Harry was in a different band with Sam which actually broke up on the same day I asked them to join me.

“We’re signed to Engineer Records, an independent label.

“They are helping us get some tours together for next year.”

The band’s debut album, ‘Grief Songs’ is described as ‘a concept record about the effects mental illness and addiction can have’.

“The entire album is a concept about bereavement,” Matthew added.

“In a way all of our band’s songs are about processing a loss of some sorts, that’s even where our band’s name came from, so I think the title of our first album is fitting.”

The three bandmates had already started recording songs for the album when lockdown first hit, forcing them to temporarily put their plans on hold.

Matthew said: “Before lockdown, we had started to get a spring in our step and were getting some support slots and we were playing a lot.

“There were three songs in this album which had already been recorded.

“Lockdown stunted me creatively.

“I used to be the kind of person who could write five songs a week, but then life was on hold for a while.

“When we were able to start practising again, it forced us to become a better band live.

“We’re better now than we ever were.”

The Wolf Howls When I Scream Your Name will begin supporting this record from July.
