A SUPERMARKET manager has been nominated for a British Citizen Award.

Mark O'Sullivan, deputy store manager of Lidl on Chester Road, Middlewich, has been put forward by his colleagues.

The dad-of-two was nominated for this prestigious award for his hard work and dedication to his job throughout the pandemic.

Proud wife Gemma said: "It came as a complete surprise. He didn't even know his colleagues had nominated him. He is not one for enjoying the limelight and feels a little bit embarrassed.

"During the first lockdown his manager was shielding for four months so he ran the store for the whole time on his own. "

Mark, from Middlewich, now lives in Winsford with his family and used to play Sunday league football.

Last September, he walked almost 25 miles from Middlewich to Chester to raise funds for the NSPCC.

Mark has worked at the Lidl store for 10 years in October.

"He always goes above and beyond and works long hours, often from 5am to 10pm," said Gemma. "He enjoys his work and gets a lot of satisfaction from it.

"I am very proud of him.

"I think all the workers in supermarkets deserve recognition for working so hard throughout the pandemic. They are overlooked a little bit."
