A LIFE-sized silhouette of a Tommy soldier is being proudly displayed at a housing development in Appleton Thorn.

It was erected outside David Wilson Homes’ Orchard Meadows development to mark the 76th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, which occurred on May 8.

Joint company Barratt and David Wilson Homes is supporting the Royal British Legion with the installation of the silhouettes at sites across Cheshire.

The housebuilder donated £100,000 as an acceptance gift and has purchased Tommy Club figures from the legion to help raise money.

The Tommy is now a universal symbol of gratitude and commemoration to all those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

Tommy Club is a fundraising initiative launched by the Royal British Legion, offering a new and exciting way for people to support Armed Forces veterans.

It aims to create a new community that will provide the best possible care for the deserving veterans of recent conflicts, with funds raised helping to provide jobs, homes, and mental health support throughout the current pandemic.

Robert Holbrook, managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes north west, said: “We are proud to support the Tommy Club by erecting the figures at our developments in Cheshire.

“Not only will the funding help to support the fantastic work they are doing, the figures will also encourage our staff and residents to take a moment of reflection for those who served for our freedom.”
