EXCITING workshops delivered during lockdown have inspired young people to explore drama.

Minerva Arts became so popular, two new groups have started.

Middlewich Youth Theatre has been launched after a previous youth theatre had to close due to Covid-19.

Two age groups meet on Wednesdays at Middlewich Community Centre in Queen Street. The junior session runs from 5.30pm to 7pm and seniors from 7.30pm to 9pm.

All sessions are built around the ideas of young people. Whether they want to be orphans who run away to become pirates or people trying to find their way out of an all too real escape room scenario, Minerva is dedicated to making their imaginations come to life.

Minerva Arts was set up in 2009 by Steph Brocken and Hayley Wood, former students of the University of Chester. The company was founded with an interdisciplinary ethos, drawing on their backgrounds in live performance, multimedia technology and visual arts and crafts.

Mandy Roscoe, youth theatre manager said “Growing up with a disabled parent there were not always opportunities for me to focus on purely my own needs.

"I joined youth theatre when I was six years old and never looked back.

’Youth theatre built up my self esteem and social skills. Youth theatre allowed me to become the confident and independent adult I am today.

"I made friendships for life and at 34 years old still maintain those relationships now."

Minerva Youth Theatre helps to promote positive mental health allowing young people to forge supportive friendships.

Members create new and contemporary performances. They are provided a safe space to explore how the arts can help them make an impact on their community with the support of experienced and enthusiastic staff.

Mandy added: "Times have been tough for everyone affected by Covid but I am thrilled about our restart. I can’t wait to push the tables back in my venue and start making some Minerva magic."
