New Winsford mayor bursting with pride to serve home town

Labour Cllr Nathan Pardoe was elected mayor at a Town Council meeting last night and vowed to showcase the town's positive image.

Cllr Pardoe said: "Winsford is a fantastic town with fantastic people. As mayor, I'll do all I can to help residents and promote our town.

"I'm proud of my family roots in Winsford and care deeply about the town and its future.

"We have got a lot to be positive about.

"When people move here from other places the one thing they always praise is the people and this needs to be recognised."

The mayor grew up in Carisbrook Drive and attended Hanley Hill and St John's primary schools and Weaverham High School.

After studying at Sir John Dean's Sixth Form College, he decided to specialise in software and worked for various companies.

A self-employed software engineer since 2017, Cllr Pardoe is married to Heather, associate assistant headteacher at a local secondary school, and the couple have an 11-year-old son Matthew.

"Ceremony and events are outside my comfort zone," said Cllr Pardoe. "But from my time as deputy mayor, I recognise the importance of the role and the platform it gives the office holder to speak up for the residents of Winsford."

He has chosen two local charities to support during his term in office.

"I’d like to nominate two local charities which serve the Winsford community," he said. "The first charity is Mid Cheshire Foodbank, which I am a trustee of. I would like a future free from in-work poverty, where nobody goes hungry and foodbanks no longer exist.

"The Government should properly support all who need help, but until we get there, foodbanks are all that stand between people going hungry or being fed.

"The second charity is Cheshire Autism Practical Support, known as ChAPS, which helps local families and adults with autism advice and support, whether they have a diagnosis or not.

"Understanding of autism is improving all the time but as somebody with an ASD diagnosis I know there is still more we can do."

Cllr Pardoe wishes to thank councillors, his parents Dave and Pam, family and friends for their support.

Cllr Joanne Moorcroft, who was elected as deputy mayor, said: "It is an honour and privilege to have been elected as deputy mayor of Winsford.

"I am proud to call Winsford my home and during my tenure I will work with the mayor to raise the profile of Winsford and speak up for residents."
