BOTH carriageways of the M6 were closed following a crash to allow an air ambulance to a land.
A motorcyclist came off his bike near junction 18 on the southbound carriageway shortly after 11.15am.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "The man sustained serious injuries to his leg as a result of the incident and has been airlifted to hospital.
"Three lanes of the southbound carriageway remain closed at this time while recovery work takes place."

A spokesman for North West Air Ambulance said: "Helimed 72 attended an incident near junction 18 of the M6 on today at approximately 11.20am."
Severe delays were reported as queueing traffic stretched back for nine miles whilst emergency crews and recovering vehicles dealt with the incident.
All lanes have now re-opened.
