POLICE were told they would 'cost a driver his job' after pulling him over for being on his mobile phone.

Motorway police saw the HGV driver on the M62 this morning, Tuesday, going through Burtonwood.

And he ignored blue lights and sirens before being pulled over.

A tweet from Northwest Motorway Police said: "The driver stated he was messaging his friends about a wage issue, but he had no answer why he didn't stop at the services he'd just come through.

"He then got upset and argued because WE were going to cost him his job, and in 31 years he'd never killed anyone. I fail to see how it is our fault, or how he won't kill somebody in the future."

A second driver was also given a ticket in Burtonwood this morning.

He was spotted on the M62 going through Burtonwood, ignoring the services, using his mobile phone.

Police say while the phone was mounted in a cradle, he tapped away on the screen, trying to find an address.

He was issued a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) for driving without due care and attention.

A female driver was also stopped on the M62 for using a mobile phone.

She was given a TOR after admitting she was messaging in a family group with a young child asleep in the back.
