VOLUNTEERS are giving Winsford Town Park a spring clean.

The friends group has been given permission by Winsford Town Council to resume weekly activity session under the guidance of Jo Fawcett, the park's horticulturalist.

John Malam, chairman of Friends of Winsford Town Park, said: "We will be tidying up the planting scheme around the salt stacks and adding new perennials to fill gaps.

"We will also tidy up the woodland walk pathway and borders as you enter the park from the Clough Road entrance."

In the coming weeks volunteers will be painting the salt stack plinths with masonry paint to freshen them up, litter picking and tidying up the edges of the pond.

The first activity session is being held on Wednesday, April 21, from 10.30am to 1pm.

Anyone who has some spare time is welcome to join.

No experience is necessary.

John said: "If you have gardening tools, such as a garden fork, spade, hand tools, secateurs, please bring them with you for your personal use. The friends do have some tools but until the Covid risks regarding sharing equipment have passed, we'd prefer volunteers to use their own tools.

"Wear gardening gloves and appropriate shoes."
