A UNIQUE list of bars, cafes, hotels and restaurants is being drawn up to promote eateries across Middlewich.

The idea of a hospitality map was suggested to Middlewich Council by resident David Williams who believes it could generate much needed income for businesses hit by the pandemic.

The Middlewich dad, who has three grown up children, presented a mock up of his suggestion during the public participation section of an external committee council meeting.

The town's pubs, eateries and hotels have been listed on one side of a leaflet with all their contact details and a map indicating their location on the reverse side. Local taxi firms have also been included.

"I think this would be brilliant for Middlewich as a lot of businesses have been struggling during lockdown, " said David.

"We've got great places to eat and drink. When we start getting tourists back this information leaflet could be handed out and perhaps put on noticeboards on the canal for boaters."

David spotted the idea on a visit to Bollington and thought it would be a good idea for the council to publish a free map to list all the local hospitality businesses.

"It will make it easier for people to find places where they can eat and drink," said David

"We have not not a Folk and Boat Festival this year so anything that can boost local businesses is good."

Cllr Gareth Williams welcomed the idea and the council agreed that it could be developed as part of the Make it Middlewich initiative.

Cllr Williams said: "David's idea is simple, quick and cost-effective. I think it is a great idea and he has done a great job.

"These leaflets can be handed out to visitors and shoppers.

"We are fortunate to have a lot of award-winning hospitality businesses serving top quality food from all over the world. This is about getting pride back into the town and promoting our wonderful establishments."

Many cafes and restaurants, he said, had made and donated food to elderly, vulnerable and people in need throughout the pandemic.

"This is a chance for the local community to pay back some of the hard work that these businesses have done over lockdown," said Cllr Williams.

"We are encouraging people to support local businesses. My message to everyone is that if it can be bought in Middlewich, buy it in Middlewich.

"We are doing everything we can to brighten up the place. New bunting is being put up and we are getting the town cleaned and weeded.

"I think Middlewich is lovely. I have lived here since 1993 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else."
