A LATE night 40-mile pursuit on the M6, brought together several police forces to stop an Audi caught travelling in excess of 150mph.

The incident began when a vehicle was spotted being driven at more than twice the national speed limit at junction 23 in Lancashire.

When challenged by officers from the Lancashire force, the Audi RS5 failed to stop and the high speed pursuit continued down the motorway towards Cheshire.

The NW Armed Police Unit assisted along with The National Police Air Service and the Central Motorway Police Group as a full pursuit was authorised.

Police officers from Greater Manchester and Merseyside also joined the pursuit and a stinger was eventually deployed in an attempt to stop the car.

The vehicle was eventually brought to a stop when it was boxed in close to junction 17.

Four men were inside the Audi and they were arrested on suspicion of theft, failing to stop and dangerous driving.
