A COUNCILLOR has obtained planning permission to build an extension on her Winsford home.

Both Cllr Joanne Moorcroft, who represents the Winsford Gravel ward, and her husband Mr D Moorcroft received the support of Cheshire West and Chester’s planning committee on Tuesday evening (April 6).

The application to build a two-storey side extension, and conservatory replacement with single storey rear extension, was referred to the committee as per council rules.

“I am sure that all members of the committee’s families change as they grow older,” Cllr Gina Lewis argued on behalf of Cllr Moorcroft.

She added: “They need more space and privacy. There has been extensive consultation with officers on what is acceptable.

“Had Mr Moorcroft not been married to Cllr Moorcroft this application probably would have not been brought to the committee at all.”

As Cllr Lewis is a member of the planning board, she did not take part in the vote on the application.

However, all 10 other councillors on the committee voted to approve the plans.

Approval was tied to a variety of standard conditions, such as a three-year time limit on commencement of building work, construction to match that laid out in submitted plans, and a need for materials to match those used at the existing dwelling.
