A MAN from Winsford has set up a mental health support group for residents to help others combat their own struggles.

Matty Noble created the group ‘It's Okay’ in September 2020, after heavily struggling himself.

"My experience with mental health has been a rough one," he explained.

"I have suffered for more than 10 years with depression and anxiety, and in 2017 I attempted to take my own life - luckily, I was unsuccessful."

"I felt like there wasn’t enough places for people to be completely open about their mental health without the fear of being judged.

"[There needs to be] places to talk without someone judging or analysing them, just let them feel the way they feel without shoving tablets and self-help books at them."

The group has amassed 172 members so far and continues to grow by the week.

Matty continued: "I think it’s helped by giving people a place to go, to talk to other like-minded people and be completely honest about how they’re feeling.

"It makes me insanely proud [knowing that it can help people], I’m so passionate about mental health and its effects on people.

"So, to even help one person is incredible never mind having 150-plus members."

The 24-year-old, a lifelong resident in Winsford, just wants to keep helping people for as long as he can.

"There is no end goal, he said.

"It’s just there to support people who need it, and I will continue to do so as long as it’s needed."
