PLANNING proposals have been submitted hoping to convert Wimboldsley Hall into a housing development.

Edge Farming hope to ‘subdivide and extend Wimboldsley Hall to form two dwellings’, and ‘convert surrounding ancillary barns to form 12 new dwellings’.

Agents Fisher German write in a planning statement: “The proposal represents a highly sustainable and well-designed development, which will provide optimum use of the buildings on site while removing and restoring former operational land.

“The proposal will provide significant economic benefits locally, and while the site is within the countryside there is reasonable access to shops and facilities and alternative means of transport.”

The scheme would also see the removal of two separate ancillary sheds from the site and a slurry tower.

NWD Architects add: “As many of the older buildings in the farmyard are no longer suitable for modern farming methods, alternative uses are required for the buildings that have a distinctive architectural style.

“The conversions of the existing buildings have been designed sympathetically, retaining as much of the existing structure internally and externally, minimising disturbance to the building fabric. The number of proposed openings has been minimised and new openings replicate existing openings.

“New buildings and proposed extensions continue this distinctive architectural style of the existing buildings. Facing materials will be carefully sourced to ensure they match to the existing facing brick of the existing buildings as closely as possible.”
