FOR many people, their daily walks have been their solace during lockdown.

It’s given people a chance to explore their surroundings and discover beautiful areas that they never knew existed.

Restaurants and surrounding shops may be closed- but some local café and coffee shops have decided to remain open for takeaway services only.

We have tracked down three Barrow walking routes with a nearby coffee shop that’s open for business.

This means you can spice up your regular walking route by enjoying a hot drink on the journey.

However, it’s important to note that these walking routes are only suitable for people who live locally and who can embark on them in accordance with lockdown rules.

Heart of Barrow Walk

This is a walk within the central Barrow conservation area.

It should take about an hour to complete and it is suitable for people of all experience and fitness levels.

The walk begins at The Dock Museum and sees you make your way past Ramsden Square and Abbey Road before winding up back at the Museum.

On your walk you will encounter many significant points of interest, such as Hindpool Farm, the historic Congregational Church and The Furness Railway Pub.

Sadly, we aren’t able to go to this pub- but we can enjoy a portion of the walk with a takeaway coffee.

Bob In Café on Ironworks Rd is just a 10 minute walk from the starting position.

Luckily for you, they are open for business and operate a takeaway service.

While you could just pop by for a hot drink, you could also grab a nibble for the journey.

Breakfast baguettes and toasties are just some of the mouth-watering items on the menu.

They are open: 8am-2:15pm (Monday).
8am-2pm (Tuesday- Saturday)
8:30am-1pm (Sunday)

Walney Walk

If you are looking for a longer and slightly more challenging walk, then this one could be perfect.

It takes you on a four mile walk around Walney with the option to extend to 6.8 miles.

It should take around 1.5-2 hours to complete- plus an extra hour if you decided to extend the route.

On the walk you will be taken on a relaxing coastal journey.

The Jubilee Bridge and North Scale village are just some of the points of interest that you will encounter on the route.

Luckily, the starting point of this walk is Biggar Bank Roundhouse, home of the Round House Hub and café.

Hot drinks, ice creams and ‘breakfasts in a box’ are just some items on the menu.

They are open every day (except Tuesdays) from 10-4pm for takeaways.

St George’s Walk

Have you ever embarked on St George’s Walk?

You can complete this one in under an hour and there are so many exciting things to see on the way.

The Albion, Salthouse Cottages and Mount Pleasant are just some points of interest on the route.

The walk itself starts on the corner of Market Street and Duke Street.

There are a few cafes to choose from near these starting points, but we would recommend Sweet Pepper Café if you want somewhere homely and reliable.

They also specialise in plant-based food, meaning vegans can be certain to find something on the menu to enjoy alongside their hot drink.

Opening hours:

Monday-Wednesday and Thursday-Friday:11:30am–3pm, 5–9pm

Saturday- 12pm-9pm
