A WINSFORD supermarket has been listed for sale at £1.6 million.

German retail giant Aldi is due to depart its current Dene Drive store this year and move to a state-of-the-art premises next door, on the former Dene Drive car park.

The current property, along with its 95-space car park, is now on the market with Bolton-based Lamb and Swift Commercial.

The firm says the 1.43-acre site will become available in August.

A restriction would be placed on the property for food sales use at the point of sale, but Lamb and Swift says the premises could be converted for other uses subject to planning permission.

Cheshire West and Chester Council sold the Dene Drive car park to Aldi for £4.1 million as part of Winsford's regeneration plans.

The car park closed suddenly last August ahead of work getting under way on the new store and planning permission was secured two months later.

In a report at the time, CWAC planning officer Steven Holmes said the project would ‘promote the sustainable regeneration of the town centre’ and is ‘likely to fuel economic growth’.

Winsford secured £10 million from the Government's Future High Streets Fund last December, with the cash set to go towards a £21 million regeneration project for the town centre.
