CASH is up for grabs for local community groups.

A Middlewich supermarket is inviting charities and organisations to apply for a free donation as part of Jack's Supports scheme.

Jack’s Supermarket, off Wheelock Street, is offering to give £500 to help four local organisations through this tough time.

There are only a few days left to apply as the deadline for this round of applications is on Sunday, February 28.

Any charities wishing to be included need to apply now.

Usually, four nominees would each receive £250 and voting units would be placed in store where shoppers could nominate one charity to receive an extra £250.

However, the funding has been increased to offer more support to local charities whose usual fundraising efforts may have been impacted by the pandemic.

Following the last round of the scheme, Jack’s donated £400 to each charity that had applied as a way of supporting them after a very difficult year.

This included 68 community groups who shared more than £27,000 in donations.

Darren Preston, store manager at Jack’s Middlewich, said: “We launched Jack’s Supports to give something back to the local communities that have supported us since our launch.

"As charity fundraising has been massively affected by the current situation, we were delighted that our last round of the Jack’s Supports scheme enabled us to offer support to more organisations than ever before.

“There are so many wonderful charities and organisations in Middlewich that we would love to support, which is why we’re urging people to come forward and apply before the deadline to be in with a chance of receiving this cash donation.”

Middlewich Primary School received a £400 cash donation in December and used the money to buy tablet computers to support children remote learning at home.

Middlewich Town Football Club has also been a successful recipient in the past.
