EXCITED children and teachers can't wait for lessons to be resumed in the classroom.

As everyone waits for Boris to make an official announcement this evening, schools across Middlewich and Winsford say they are looking forward to welcoming pupils back through the doors.

Many parents who have been congratulated for home schooling their children are also eagerly awaiting for live teaching to get the go-ahead.

One Winsford mum said: "It's been lovely working with the children at home and I've done my best. But I feel they are missing out on so much. We're not teachers."

Janet McKinlay, headteacher at St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Middlewich, said: "News that schools may be able to re-open on March 8 was received positively by staff at St Mary’s and created a wave of enthusiasm and a surge of hope.

"Lockdown has been a huge drain on morale, personal banks of resilience and wellbeing for not only parents but school staff as well.

"Everyone wants to get back to normal and teachers have provided remote education and done a very good job but nothing compares to a thriving, joyous school community where individuals are cherished and each child’s uniqueness celebrated.

"This is hard to do from afar and electronically. It will be incredible for teachers and school staff to carry out their role as educators given this is not just a job for them but a vocation."

Heidi Thurland, headteacher at Middlewich High School, tweeted: "We will watch with interest the briefings from the Government later regarding schools opening fully on the 8th March. We will then plan accordingly to ensure we open safely."

Sara Albiston, head of school at The Grange Community Primary, posted: "We have everything crossed that we will be all back together very soon. For now, welcome to spring 2. Home learning will be up on Goggle Classroom. Remember, we are here if you need anything at all."
