A MAN who was arrested by police after reports of car doors being tried during the night-time has been released under investigation.

Officers carried out a stop search of a suspect on Tuesday morning, January 26,.

They arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of vehicle interference.

Police had received reports of car doors having been tried in various locations in Parr, Blackbrook and Fingerpost over the weekend.

The attempted thefts took place in the early hours, say police.

The man was taken to custody for questioning.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that the suspect has been released under investigation.

In a statement after the arrest, police said: "We have arrested a man in connection with vehicle interference in St Helens in the early hours of Saturday, January 23 and Sunday 24.

"It was reported that at around 3am, a man was seen attempting to open car doors in Derbyshire Hill Road and Park Road, as well as further including Blackbrook, Berrys Lane and Fingerpost.

"Following a stop search, officers arrested a 21-year-old man from St Helens on suspicion of vehicle interference this morning (Tuesday, January 26).

"An investigation is ongoing and officers are keen to speak to anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage.
