A NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD man has been charged by police with possession of a knife in St Helens town centre and assault of a police officer.
An arrest was made after police pursued a suspect on Corporation Street, St Helens on Friday night (January 22).
Officers alleged that during the chase a man assaulted a female police officer.
The suspect was detained after being found hiding nearby.
A man was later arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife and assaulting a police officer.

Reece Lowndes, 19, of Derbyshire Hill Road, Parr, has since been charged with possession of a bladed article and assault by beating on an emergency worker.
He was bailed to attend Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on April 19 this year.
Police say the woman officer involved in the incident is fine.
