"The focus now is on making sure people have the essentials, food, clothing and shelter and putting things back. The council team worked through the night on Wednesday, their efforts were amazing."

Homes of residents living near Winsford Marina were flooded as Storm Christoph battered the town.

The graveyard at Wharton Church is waterlogged due to the volume of rain.

"I know this is distressing to families with loved ones at rest there," said Cllr Pardoe, whose gran is buried at this cemetery. "It is really sad. Myself and Cllr Joanne Moorcroft have talked with Rev Tim Hanson.

"It is a challenge because of the drainage, we will talk to council officers about the technical issues."

The local community is now rallying round to help each other.

"There have been inspiring stories of residents helping each other and the community response is heartwarming," said Cllr Pardoe. "Thankyou and well done to all involved."
