A MAN who was knocked down by a car just before Christmas remains in hospital in a serious condition, say police.

The pedestrian, aged in his 30s, was injured after being hit by a grey Audi on Warrington Road, Rainhill.

The incident happened at about 9.50pm on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

After the collision police said the man was taken to hospital "in a critical condition with serious head injuries".

The driver stopped at the scene and is helping police with enquiries which are ongoing.

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said today (Wednesday, January 20): "The man remains in hospital in a serious condition.

"There are no investigative updates and enquiries remain ongoing."

After the collision a police statement read: "An investigation is underway and officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dashcam or CCTV footage from the area.
