THATTO Heath, Rainhill and Eccleston wards had coronavirus infection rates in excess of one in 100 people, according to the council's latest Covid tracker.

The tracker, covering the period of January 6 to January 12, states there were 1,452 positive COVID-19 cases in St Helens during the seven-day period.

This equates to an overall rate for the period of 804.1 per 100,000.

This is a slight decrease on the rate in the seven days up to January 9 which was 821.2 (1,483 cases).

Of the 1,452 cases, 195 were from an asymptomatic 'lateral flow' test.

By date of specimen, Monday, January 11 saw the highest number of cases with 260.

Saturday, January 9 had the lowest at 148.

St Helens Star:

By ward, Thatto Heath saw the most cases recorded, with 138, equating to a rate of more than 1,100 per 100,000.

Meanwhile Eccleston had 124 cases and Rainhill 113, with both wards seeing a rate in excess of 1,000 per 100,000.

Billinge and Seneley Green saw the fewest cases with 60, a rate of more than 600 per 100,000.

Parr and Haydock also saw rates of less than 700 per 100,000.

St Helens Star:

By age group, 388 cases were among 45 to 59-year-olds, the most for any category.

Next came 30 to 44-year-olds with 343.

Meanwhile, 18 to 29-year-olds accounted for 315 of the cases and there were 196 among 60 to 79-year-olds.

Children (0 to 17) made up 120 cases.

Meanwhile there were 85 cases among the 80-plus age category.

St Helens Star:

Of the cases, 773 (53.24 per cent) were among females and 678 among males (46.69 per cent). There was one of unknown gender.
