AN amber flood alert has been issued for Knutsford and Wilmslow as Storm Christoph brings heavy rain to Cheshire.

The Met Office has already issued issuing a yellow weather warning for rain from today through to Thursday for most of Cheshire, while some eastern areas including Wilmslow have an amber warning.

The Environment Agency has also issued a flood alert for the River Bollin catchment, meaning flooding is possible and residents should be prepared.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “A prolonged period of heavy rain will cause river levels to rise at the Bollington Mill river gauge and consequently flooding of property or roads and farmland is possible.

“We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the Rivers Bollin, Dean and Pedley, Birkin and Mobberley Brooks and their tributaries.
