A FLOOD alert has been issued for Knutsford and Wilmslow, lasting today and into tomorrow.

Storm Bella is causing disruption throughout the UK this weekend, with high winds, heavy rain, snow and ice.

The Environment Agency has today, December 27, issued a flood alert for the River Bollin catchment area in Knutsford, Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Bollington.

Residents are being warned to be prepared for possible flooding in the area and to avoid using low-lying footpaths near the River Bollin.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: “River levels are rising at the Bollington Mill river gauge as a result of rainfall from Storm Bella.

“Consequently, flooding of low-lying land and roads is possible today, on December 27 2020, and into tomorrow, December 28 2020.

“Current forecasts are expecting the river level to peak at approximately 1.1m around 9pm tonight at the Bollington Mill river gauge.

“Please be aware further rainfall is forecast over the next 12 hours.”
