A VOW by Boris Johnson that weddings will be able to go ahead by next summer has been welcomed by Winsford MP Edward Timpson.

The Prime Minister said that new coronavirus vaccines and tests should give couples confidence to book venues.

The wedding and hospitality industry has been hit hard by restrictions this year.

Mr Johnson said: "It is my strong hope and belief that by the summer one way or the other whether by vaccination, which I hope and believe we will have delivered by Easter, or by lateral flow testing, we will be a in a different world.

"My hope is by summer it really will be a different world for the weddings and events industry. And I hope your potential customers will be full of confidence and optimism as well and getting hitched in the normal way."

Winsford MP Edward Timpson welcomes the Prime Minister's hopeful message that weddings can go ahead next year

"I have been on my feet in the House of Commons raising the plight of the wedding industry no less than six times, and have questioned the Prime Minister, Health Secretary and the Business Minister on the matter, as well as pushing the issue in Whitehall. I've also been in regular contact with the Cheshire weddings supply chain—a very important employer.

"It’s vital that bookings can be made with confidence from January onwards to help our wedding venues—and the many other businesses who work with them—to recover much of their lost revenue from 2020."
